The Arts are back in West Warwick!

Yesterday, April 27, 2016, was a great day for West Warwick. The Centreville Bank, through their charitable foundation, presented a check for $175,000 to the Arctic Playhouse. The group that runs the theatre plans to use the funds to purchase their very own building. Jim Belanger, Lloyd Felix, and Dave Viera plan on staying in Arctic and using the money to buy the old Mastro Electric building just down Washington Street from their current location. It was important for the group that theatre not just stay in West Warwick, but that it stayed in Arctic! Since their arrival here in West Warwick the guys at the Playhouse have built a beautiful community space. They have not just had theatrical productions. There have been comedy shows, live music, as well as art displays. As a matter of fact, they will be having an art expo on May 11th. The Arctic Playhouse has worked with our local art teachers and will be displaying student art for the second year in a row! I’m excited to see what these guys can do with this space. The arts play a big part in community development and it looks like the arts have found a new, permanent home in Arctic! I have no doubt that it is going to be the type of attraction that we need to help bring in more people and possibly more business in the center of town!
